Status Social launched the social media for the five business-to-business magazines of Amsterdam-based Elsevier, one of the largest publishers in the world.
Elsevier publishes influential magazines such as The Lancet and Cell, as well as publications for many specialist sectors and industries.
We created and ran accounts on Facebook, Twitter Google+ and LinkedIn for five magazines: Renewable Energy Focus, Reinforced Plastics, World Pumps, Filtration & Separation and Metal Finishing. We also posted on Reddit and Stumble Upon.
On every platform, our aim was to increase subscriptions.
Using Social Media To Boost Subscriptions
During the 28 months of the campaign, more than 28,000 social media accounts engaged with the magazines’ social media. Our strategy was simple: Give the audience valuable content about their industry while nudging them towards online subscription forms.
Twitter proved the most successful platform, with more than 12,000 accounts following the five magazines. 7,000 people joined the LinkedIn groups, 6,000 profiles liked the Facebook pages, and nearly 3,000 companies and individuals added the magazines to their Google+ circles.
Social Media Is A Long Game
Over the campaign, there were almost 7,000 clicks through to the subscription forms from social media. Many more clicked to the forms after social media content attracted them to the website.
Almost 90,000 website hits came from social media. During the final quarter of the campaign alone, more than 11,000 website sessions were recorded. This proves that social media is a long game that favours the patient. That’s why we always take the long-term view when it comes to social media strategies.
Our work with Elsevier proves that a long-term multi-platform social media campaign can bring incredible results.
